This summer's shaping up to be something special at the Peak.

We officially broke ground on 3 brand new MTB trails on the 20th October 2025.  Each designed to open up new possibilities for every level of rider, from groms and first-timers to full-send pros. Between the late snow and far from ideal summer we have been battling.  Dirt Tech are looking to open the Grade 2 trail by Waitangi weekend and then start on the World Cup course.

Here’s what’s coming:

Wakatipu View: Approx. 5.0 km – Grade 2 (green)

Queenstown’s easiest trail. Designed for those new to mountain biking and families, Wakatipu View cruises across the face of the mountain with smooth, flowing lines and (you guessed it) epic views. Expect mellow gradients, rolling turns, berms and plenty of Good Times. This may be the only MTB trail in the district that lives up to the Grade 2 standard. That’s why its so long - at 6% gradient it had to be. If you thought MTB was too hard think again. This is the step between river trails and the mountains, perfect for kids.

Velvet Rolls: Approx. 600m – Grade 3 (blue)

A fun little link off Wakatipu View that takes things up a notch. This mid-mountain roller playground features gentle jumps, flow and undulating terrain the perfect progression for riders leveling up. We are going to put this on hold for this summer, we can only do so much.

World Cup: Approx. 1.9km – Grade 6 (black)

Built for the brave. This full-noise top-to-bottom trail is going in on the opposite side of the chairlift from the main DH line. It’s steep, it’s technical, and it’s built to push the limits. Only for the most advanced riders. We will start this in February top down and see how far our budget takes us. If we don’t finish it this summer we will open with it next!

What you need to know:

  • Improved access to Dirt Serpent was done by Christmas and been a real hit.
  • Wakatipu View is tracking for completion before Waitangi Weekend.
  • World Cup will be opening at the end of the summer, or start of next.
  • Velvet Rolls on hold for a season.

We’re stoked to be building these trails in partnership with the legends at Dirt Design, led by Kepler Rek. Progress has to be careful and considered as we’re navigating spring snow, sensitive alpine ecosystems, and a commitment to minimising the impact from building these trails. Every metre is built with care and respect for the maunga.

These are just the first tracks to come from our newly approved DOC Master Plan. So stay tuned as Coronet's MTB future is just getting started.

See you on the hill soon. Let’s ride!
